Under 6 to Under 8 Competition Evening – 14th February 2020

DO YOU HAVE AN UNDER 6 to UNDER 8 ATHLETE?

Feedback from the parents of younger athletes at the end of last season suggested that, in the second half of the season, there were not enough competition days. This was due to scheduling of region and state events (combined events, region and state track and field) for under 9 to 16 athletes.

Similarly this season with the scheduling of Combined Event, EMR and State Track and Field for U9-U16 , Knox LAC will be trialing an under 6 to 8 competition night on the 14th February.

The competition will begin at 6pm and likely to be finished by 8 at the very latest. In order to make this night a success, we need your support to ensure our youngest athletes are told about this night and encouraged to attend.

Events for the evening will be as follows;

  • Under 6 boys – 100 m, 300 m, Long jump and shot put
  • Under 6 girls – 100 m, 300 m, Long jump and discus
  • Under 7 boys – 100 m, 300 m, Long jump and shot put
  • Under 7 girls – 100 m, 300 m, Long jump and discus
  • Under 8 boys – 100 m, 600 m, High jump and shot put
  • Under 8 girls – 100 m, 600 m, High jump and discus

That this is a competition night especially for our under 6,7 and 8 athletes and that they have the opportunity to gain PB’s, and that the success of the night (and scheduling of future under 6 to 8 competitions) will only be achieved if they can all attend.

Chief officiating duties for the night have been divided among  eight clubs with Wantirna LAC to Chief Discus. Parents will still need to help at events. It may also be a good opportunity for those parents that want to learn about becoming a chief to help in the future.

If you are proposing to attend on the 14th February could you advise Janine Kearsley, Wantirna Team Manager.
