From the President – Covid 19 Stage 4 Restrictions

LAVic on Monday provided the following update to centres regarding .

The Victorian State Government has declared a ‘state of disaster’ for the whole of Victoria. The following restrictions will be in place until 11.59pm on Sunday 13th September.:

  • Metropolitan Melbourne & Mitchell Shire: Metropolitan Melbourne moves to Stage 4 restrictions; Mitchell Shire remains on Stage 3 restrictions.
  • Regional Victoria, Stage 3 restrictions will be in place from 11.59pm on Wednesday 5 August.Regrettably, community sport – and Little Athletics – is banned in Metropolitan Melbourne and Regional Victoria for the next 6 weeks.LAVic has a number of affiliated Centres based in NSW. Any restrictions on sanctioned training and competition activities for those Centres will be determined by the NSW Government. Athletes residing in Victoria and registered with NSW Centres will be precluded from sanctioned training and competition while the current Victorian measures remain in place.New season preparationsThe announcements of tighter restrictions is really unfortunate news for Centres in their efforts to prepare for the new season, which is only a matter of weeks away. We have no control over these and they will create a lot of uncertainty in just about every facet of our sport. Hopefully, they drive infection rates right down and quickly.LAVic will continually provide information regarding the new season as it becomes available through our working relationship with Sport and Recreation Victoria and Vicsport.

For us as a club we will be advised by the Knox Exec Committee as to the start of the upcoming Track and Field season. The Knox LAC Exec Committee is working hard in the background to get the Track and Field season underway when it can. The Exec Committe is advising individual club committees as the information comes to hand. I encourage you to check the Wantirna Club website or the  Knox LAC website regularly to get the latest information.

In the mean time stay safe and stay healthy.

LA Vic Update – Little Athletics Activities and Reintroduction of Stage 3 Restrictions

LA Vic have provided the following update following the State Government Announcement that to re-impose stage 3 COVID-19 restrictions on all local government areas within metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire. The restrictions take effect from midnight 8th July and will remain in place for a period of 6 weeks.

Regrettably, community sport will be banned for impacted communities. This means athletes residing in the locked down areas will not be able to participate in Little Athletics activities during this time, and Centres located in locked down areas will not be authorised to conduct Little Athletics activities.

While this is extremely disappointing news for Little Athletics and thousands of our athletes in the short term, it is a reminder that our community faces a formidable, highly virulent and invisible foe and that there is much work that we must all do in order to defeat it in the months and years ahead.

That means that all training activities for little aths will cease for the 6 week period.

Little Aths Vic have previously advised that the State Track and Field and State Cross Country have already been cancelled.

Knox LAC will provide further updates as information is provided from LA Vic.

Please note that the Knox LAC AGM will move to an online only meeting. Knox LAC will provide further details and is still going ahead on 27 July 2020 at 7.30pm

National Volunteer Week – 18 May to 24 May 2020

This week is National Volunteer Week. While we may not be able to participate in athletics like we usually would at the moment, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all our families that volunteer their time each week to ensure that we have a viable club to enjoy.

Little Athletics at Knox is dependant on its families to volunteer each week to ensure a smooth running of  events and centre activities. Some of the volunteers at Knox have no direct link with Little Athletes anymore, sacrifice their time for our little athletes each week.

To those that are on our club committee and to each family doing parent duty each week for the club, or taking on roles at the Centre or even at Regional and State Championships,  no matter what contribution you make, big or small,  the our club would not run without you.

So, Thank you.  Your efforts each week are appreciated by all of us within the Wantirna Little Athletics Club.
